One of my favorite trips: Santorini, Greece

We have all been home for months now and I can’t help but daydream about my next vacation. I’ve been thinking about trips that I’ve taken over the last few years and wanted to share my experience in Santorini, Greece, as it was one of the best vacations I’ve ever been one of the best places to travel.

I went to Santorini with two friends for a few days, right before we headed over to Mykonos. We stayed at Santorini Palace in Thera which I highly recommend. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room and how beautiful the bathroom was. The hotel felt a bit like a maze as all of the buildings look pretty similar and we got lost a few times. The hotel had a really nice pool with very comfortable daybeds for the ultimate relaxation.

During our stay, we rented an ATV and a two seater car from Sunbird rental which cost us $210 (including insurance). It’s definitely the best way to get around the island as there are barely any taxis and they can get pretty pricey. However, travelers need to be extremely careful and vigilant when using the GPS because we ended up on a few one-way streets.

During the day, we would drive around explore what the gorgeous island had to offer. We went to several different places but the highlights in my opinion were the red beach and black beach. To get to the red beach, you have to park the car and then do a pretty strenuous hike to actually get to the beach.. totally worth it. As for the black beach, you have to drive and but there is a pretty steep hill and since we were in the ATV’s, we were driving pretty slowly. Both of the beaches were amazing and I would definitely go back.

We asked multiple people where we should go out and every single person included the bar Two Brothers on their list. It’s a place where you can dance and can order hookah (not really my thing but my friends love it). Everyone at the bar was having a great time, and the music was a mixture of current hits and 90’s hits.

One night after going out, we ended up in a fish spa at 2:30 a.m. I had seen it a few times in the Mexico airport but had never done it. You literally put your feet in a cube of water and little fishies nibble the dead skin from your feet. We were laughing the entire time because it was so ticklish, but it was definitely a unique experience.

Watching the sunset is always on the top of my list when it comes to planning a trip. I always look up the best places to see the sunset before I travel anywhere. The two best places that we found were Oia, one of the most popular places to go on the island, and Pyrgos, which is the highest point of the island. I went a bit camera crazy and took over 100 photos of the same sunset (no shame). Santorini also has at least 50 restaurants throughout the island that you can have an amazing view of the sunset during dinner which is amazing.

All in all, Santorini was a really magical place that I highly recommend as a trip for friends and would also be great for couples.
